The core concept of laser cladding lies in “additive repair” and “performance enhancement.”
By adding cladding materials onto the substrate surface, the technology is primarily used to restore high-value components damaged by wear or corrosion, such as rolling mills, rotors, and turbine blades. It is also widely applied to pre-coat vulnerable areas of new components with wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant alloy layers, including valve sealing surfaces and drilling rods.
The core concept of laser hardening (laser quenching) is “substrate self-reinforcement.”
Through controlled modification of the substrate’s surface microstructure, the process significantly improves surface hardness, wear resistance, and fatigue strength while causing minimal dimensional deformation. Typical applications include molds, gears, shafts, and cylinder bores.
